George for Lunch - Knysna for supper
The idea was to take a ride to Knysna, when I mentioned it to my work colleagues I was asked “oh what are you going to do in Knysna?”,
My reply was “its all about the ride baby!!!!”

It was Valdezugar on the VFR800, Louis on his R6, Jo-Marie on the 883 Sportster and myself on my new ride. Having put the new pipe on the night before and sampled it around Hospital bend I was as ready as I could be.
The route was split between us, Jo & Louis took the N2 straight to George, Mr Zugar & I hit took a more complicated route.
We took the N1 to Worcester, split off down the R60 to Robertson and Ashton and then onto Swellendam, the stretch from Ashton to Swellendam was incredible!!!.
We hit the N2 for a bit, then took the R324 over Tradouws Pass.
A very picturesque (and fairly quiet) piece of road , very smooth and grippy, cutting through the kloof, cliff on one side, low wall & death on the other. Pure sex!!!
After causing a few rockfalls & destroying the tranqulity with our “for race use only” pipes we hit the R62 at Barrydale.
As many of you know the R62 continues on past Ronnies Sex shop to Ladismith,
then onto Calitzdorp. Theres a mountain range just before Calitzdorp (you can see it in the distance on the straight road pic) with an interesting pass. This road does not suffer fools, its dangerous bends & sharp rocks just asking for some soft flesh, plastic & aluminium. BEWARE of the very tight right hander at the start, the road leads you on like a shemale hooker!!!
Leaving Calitzdorp, the white aggregate road starts off with a few bends but straightens out to become one of the classic endless highway types. Its straight and smooth and a natural candidate for top end runs, the clock stopped at 299kph but the rev counter kept on going….
From there it was the Outeniqua Pass down to George. With quite a long ride through some high ground, the road opens up to dual carriageway thats really fast and a good start to the pass. Once on the pass where the steep bits are you cant believe your luck as bend after glorious bend swings into view. There is a straight or two, suitable opportunity to crack it open, but always wary of what might be lurking round the corner ahead as well as watching the converging curbs for a tighting bend. I got the thumbs up from some Nouveau Riche in a Merc at the bottom of the hill who were all excited after I planted knee slider on an outside overtaking maneuver.
That road is a legend, I’ll be back!!!
We were 2 hours late already, as we were due to meet the
other two in George, so any extra runs were out of the question.
We met up with Louis & Jo-Marie for lunch, after riding straight through a 3 way stop we never saw AAARRGHH!
Steak Egg & Chips for lunch, Valdezugar got some worms with his food, which won us a round or drinks & then we pressed on to Knysna. The garden Route has some very good biking roads. I did not see many cops either. The ride was uneventful except for me setting off one of those cameras on the twisty bits just before Wilderness.
Under a Lowveld like sky (temps & humidity made leathers very sticky) we entered Knysna. We were staying at Vals grans house so we made base there & met for supper at some restaurant, where we ate & planned the trip back.
In essence the trip back was a mirror, except for the stops at the Wimpy at Oudtshoorn, Ronnies Sex shop (where an old man was stopped in the road, I slipped through a gap between him & the gravel sheesh I kakked) and the Country pumpkin in Barrydale to get lunch & our R62 badges.
We took the N2 from Swellendam all the way home, against a hectic front & side wind.
I worked out some pain relieving positions during the long ride, my bike was beating me up with its hard suspension settings ……thinking back I don’t know why I didn’t get the ol’ C-spanner out & try some settings but I guess you just want to get home.
1250km’s and about 10 blerry petrol stops, 17L tank & light comes on after 195kays.
On Monday at work, by midday I wanted to be out riding again,
it’s a drug!!!!!!!!!!
